Gakuran Music Room and Instruments
Instruments
| Instrument | Lanes | Default keys | How it plays |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electric Guitar | 2 lanes | F and J (rebindable) · L1 / R1 on controller | Speed-first: rapid taps for distortion-heavy lead tracks. |
| Bass Guitar | 4 lanes | X, C, N, M (rebindable) · L2 / L1 / R1 / R2 on controller | Low-end rhythm that holds the tempo under the rest of the band. |
| Drums | 4 lanes | X, C, N, M (rebindable) · L2 / L1 / R1 / R2 on controller | Relentless beats, cymbal hits and fills as the tempo ramps. |
| Piano | 4 lanes | X, C, N, M (rebindable) · L2 / L1 / R1 / R2 on controller | Technical melodic lines with sweeping patterns. |
Calibrate first. The moment you pick an instrument up the Calibrate Timing prompt appears — it measures your input latency against a click track, which matters on Bluetooth headphones and TV speakers. Keyboard binds are rebindable in Settings → Rhythm → Keybinds; controller binds are fixed at L1/R1 for two lanes and L2/L1/R1/R2 for four.
Difficulties
| Difficulty | Best for | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Easy | Learning the lanes | Slow scroll, few notes, single taps only. |
| Medium | Comfortable with basic rhythm | Moderate speed, mild multi-note patterns, some off-beat taps. |
| Hard | Experienced rhythm players | Fast scroll, dense clusters, rapid lane switching, frequent double taps. |
| Extreme | Maximum combo hunting | High-speed streams, complex multi-finger patterns. |
Phone music player: 30 tracks
Japanify is the in-game music app — community-picked Japanese and punk tracks, each reviewed by the team before it goes in. This is the list transcribed on the wiki; update #22 added fifteen more songs to the instrument side (American Idiot, Creep, Inferno, Toxicity, Yoru ni Kakeru and others), and the instrument tracklist is not the same as the phone tracklist.

Why you cannot hear other players
Two common causes. If you are wearing headphones connected to the phone music app, your music is private by design — that is the feature, not a bug. If instruments themselves are silent, the music room had a documented break that was fixed in the update #20 sub-patch, so an out-of-date client is worth restarting.
