What Is Gakuran?
The game
Gakuran runs on Roblox and is listed under the group's own stylised name. It was created in November 2025, has passed 213 million visits, holds roughly 89% likes from over half a million votes, and had more than 12,000 players in servers when we last read the Roblox API. Servers hold up to 50 players. Roblox files it under Action → Battlegrounds & Fighting, which tells you how the playerbase actually uses it.
The developers describe it as "an INTENDED Slice of Life experience (though I guess our community just loves to fight LOL)" — and both halves are true. There is a functioning school with classrooms, a library of readable books, a music room with a full rhythm minigame, chess and arcade clubrooms, basketball and volleyball, a convenience store with jobs, and a phone with eight retro games on it. There is also a deep combat system with 15 rollable fighting styles, posture, parries, guardbreaks and grapples.
The word
A gakuran is the standard black uniform for Japanese boys' schools: high stand collar, gold buttons, worn since the Meiji era and modelled on Prussian military dress. That is what most of the world means by the word, and it is why searching for the game turns up uniform shops. The game's own stylised name plays on the same reading.
How to actually get in
You must join the Gakuran group on Roblox before the experience will load. That single requirement is behind most of the "why can't I play", "it won't let me join" and "you must be in the group" reports. Join the group, relaunch, and it loads normally.
Is there a story or an objective?
No. Character creation gives you a randomised student — gender, height, ethnicity, hair, face, surname, year — and after that there are no set objectives. The developers say that may change. The faction system players keep asking about is on the board as "not implemented", so every gang is player-run roleplay.
