Gakuran Ethnicity and Demographic Odds
The three things ethnicity decides
- Height. Your height is generated around your demographic's average, so ethnicity effectively sets your damage, health and attack speed band. Full table on the height page.
- Hair colour. 95% of hair colours come from your ethnicity's natural RGB table; 5% trigger a dye roll outside it. See the hair colour tables.
- Surname. Each background has its own preset surname pool, from European's 838 down to Japanese's 559 — 4,428 in total across the game. See last names.
Average height per background
| Ethnicity | Male average | Female average | Natural hair shades | Surname pool |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| European | 178 cm (5'10") | 165 cm (5'5") | 7 | 838 |
| African | 175 cm (5'9") | 162 cm (5'4") | 3 | 712 |
| Middle Eastern | 173 cm (5'8") | 160 cm (5'3") | 3 | 769 |
| Japanese | 171 cm (5'7") | 159 cm (5'3") | 3 | 559 |
| Latino | 170 cm (5'7") | 158 cm (5'2") | 4 | 795 |
| Indian | 167 cm (5'6") | 155 cm (5'1") | 3 | 755 |
Is one ethnicity better?
Mechanically, only through height. European rolls centre highest for both genders and Indian rolls centre lowest, so if you want a tall frame for Slugger or Wrestling you are rolling against a 5% foreign chance and then hoping for the tall tail of that curve. Short builds are far cheaper to get, because Japanese rolls are 95% of everything and sit near the middle of the range.
Everything else ethnicity touches — hair palette, surname pool — is cosmetic or roleplay flavour, and faces are unaffected entirely: face selection depends only on gender.
